Workshop Agenda
June 30th - July 2nd, 2008
M-W, 9am-4:30pm
| Day 1 (Monday, June 30th): Background and Plot Lay-out/Stand
Measurements
|
| AM - | What is Forest Watch? Background on ground-level ozone, air quality effects on forest
health, regional and global issues of climate change, the need for student &
scientist partnerships and the need for data accuracy. Over-view of afternoon
field work.
| | PM - | Plot lay-out, basic stand measurements, qualitative site assessments,
collecting branch samples for laboratory analysis, Begin fresh/dry weight & pigment analysis (chlorophyll extractions)

| Day 2 (Tuesday, July 1st): Physical Measurements, Spectral measurements
|
| AM - | Introduction to New Hampshire's air quality monitoring program.
Student measurements,needle length, visual symptoms of ground-level ozone damage, needle age-class, etc.
| | PM - | Anatomy of white pine needles - making thin sections, Spectral reflectance measurements as an indication of needle/tree health.
|
| Day 3 (Wednesday, July 2nd): Finish lab/classroom activities, integration into your curriculum & wrap up. |
| AM - | Spectral reflectance measurements continued, finish fresh/dry weight.
& pigment analysis
| | PM - | Overview of materials, submission of data, analysis of data,
Integration of Forest Watch into your curriculum.

Please Be Prepared for Field Workon Monday-
Wear Boots & Long Pants when we're in the woods!
We encourage multiple teachers to register from the same school or district!!
